Heaven’s Tears
(Ondoy 26Sep2009)
You came unexpected as your brothers and sisters before
From heaven your tears dropped in torrents
Drumming tin roofs with a roar of fright.
In moments, lives cling to anything that floats
Abodes upside down as your tears welled up from the ground
You slumbered before night yet hundreds never to wake
Life stood on only but the wet dakness hid
Shivering moans and cries heard through the night
At dawn’s break, your wrath is brought to light
Tears turned into mire sweeping all in its path
Cold and weary, hungry and thirsty
Helpless thousands in peril, many away from their family
Waiting as your tears flowed and swept everything by
Humbled before peoples of other places
Outpouring of kindness from unknown faces
Reminding us to help each other in times of need
Greed of a few denied nourishment and warmth
To the very people they have sworn to feed
In the end, goodness triumphed
Young or old, a stranger neighbor or friend
Comforting each other, blessed arms reaching extend
It will take a lot of time for things to mend
Our generations have offended you
Cut down trees and fouled the air we breath
Blocked the rivers and poisoned the waters
Let us learn so as On your return
Sustain the waters make forests as gardens
Tears of joy from heaven
